DT3
It’s time to say goodbye to the Lady Luck, but don’t worry she’ll live in spirit. She will not suffer the fate that the Stardust and the Dunes incurred of death by implosion. Instead, she will be getting a grand makeover, and the rest of Downtown 3rd is going to get the grand treatment alongside her.
Inside the stripped, nearly vacant Lady Luck sits Seth Schorr, the CEO of 5th street gaming, The company in charge of the Downtown 3rd project. Third street, now being branded as Downtown 3rd, and as we will be calling it, DT3, is going to be a different experience than Fremont. Seth says “We’re not trying to compete with Fremont, we’re going to be complimentary to Fremont.”
The biggest project within Downtown 3rd is going to be the renovation of Lady Luck, which will now be called the Downtown Grand. The hotel/casino will contain 11 restaurants and 8 bars and lounges, 650 hotel rooms, a race & sportsbook, an events center, and a Farmer’s Market. One of the more interesting conceptual developments is The Commissary, A more modern and upscale food court, where you pay a flat rate to eat at any of the vendors. The commissary will have free wifi and comfortable seating which will promote a great place to work on your laptop and hang out.
The surroundings of Downtown 3rd will also be exciting. Zappo’s new headquarters will be conveniently located at the old City Hall building, bringing 1250 employees to the new digs. The Mob museum is opening in February 2012 and promises to have very prominent pieces of Las Vegas’ racy history. As of repeal day, this past December, Downtown 3rd already opened The Mob Bar. Located next to Triple George, The Mob Bar is a classy watering hole inspired by the times of prohibition. You won’t find pictures of The Godfather at the Mob Bar, It’s décor is done tastefully and respectfully to reflect the style of that era.
Although there is no solidified date of when these projects will be complete, Construction is happening every day. DT3 will also be a great place to visit on First Friday, maybe to grab a bite and catch some dinner conversation with friends over jazz and wine before heading DTF.
